Today is Friday, June 12. Since Monday, and our last entry, we have been in Krivoy Rog. Our time was spent with Ed Dickson vistiting the people and places he supports.
1. A children's hospital where 100 + babies are abandoned every year.Little is given to them for medical and food supplies per child. Newly renovated rooms and cribs, scales etc. all done by Ed's organiztion.
2. Juvenile detention center for 37 boys.(outcasts from other institutions). More renovations, sports equipment etc. Not one boy has run away and success rate is great so far.
3. We also visited and orphanage for physcially handcap children. More renovations were done, to better the lives of these kids. A Canadian also built a beautiful park for them.(that is another miracle story) etc.
4. A school for the deaf where we'll inquire on how to help 94 kids).
5. A regular orphanage in which shoes are a great necessity.
6. Our most touching experience was a home for older physically and mentally challenged men(300). We thought we had seen it all but this was difficult. They lived out of the city. We saw about 80 men with severe deformities. the most remarkable surprise was how they welcomed us. Each one told us that they loved God and that God was good. (The church in Krivoy Rog reaches out to these men every Sunday. They have a service there with music, worship etc. Mumbling and grunting, they came to hug us and hold our hands. It was very moving to see how much they love Ed. Ed found this place many years ago and has helped them renovate different areas of this institution. He passed out baseball caps(brought by another group from Millbrook, Ontario) and they were so happy. They all wanted their photos taken and their smiles were worth a milion dollars. We'll show them when we're back home.
We are now in Koresten after a 12 hour car ride from Krivoy Rog to Kiev then to Koresten yesterday. We're with Ruslan and Lilia and met an orphanage director this morning. They have asked for some sports equipment in which we will buy this week and desperately need some medical supplies .They have close to 200 children here. It is a real poor orphanage and there are MANY needs. The kids we met were great. They had a little soccer time with Mike. Ruslan tries to visit them on a regular basis. The director has also approved for some of the kids to attend his youth group on Friday night providing we pay for their transportation. It has been worth the visit so far. Hope you're all well. Till next time.God Bless
